Jean Burlingame, figurative/landscape artist

So, let’s talk

The point where I began painting the female figure started with a with concentration in Fashion Illustration at F.I.T. Upon graduation, I began a study in life drawing and painting at the School of Visual Arts (NYC) Saturday Live classes. Later, while obtaining a Master’s degree in Art Education, under the mentorship of Marc Dennis at Elmira College, I began a series of intimate bathroom studies of the female figure. That voyeuristic approach evolved into a quest to “collect” images of people in every day mundane settings while capturing a glimpse of the subtle and delicate inner workings of one’s thoughts. Being watched, posing gracefully, acknowledging the process of being objectified while deep knowledge is ever present is at the heart of my intent. The paint reveals more than what was intended, surprising myself! Please share thoughts or comments below.
